Fred Rwigema

Fred Gisa Rwigema (of its true name Emmanuel Lay, born the April 10th 1957 with Gitarama and deceased the October 2nd 1990) is one of the founder members of the Front patriotic Rwandan and considered as a hero of the history of the Rwanda, although it passed most of his life apart from the country

Rwigema is born in the South from Rwanda. Regarded as belonging to the Ethnos group Tutsi, him and its family flee in Uganda to be established in the camp of Réfugié S of Nshungerezi to Ankole in 1960 following the Hutu revolution of 1959 and the takeover of the king Kigeli V.

At the end of its studies in 1976, it leaves for the Tanzania and joined the Front release National , a rebel group directed by Yoweri Museveni, the brother of its friend Salim Saleh. It is at that time that it changes name to be made call Fred Rwigema . The same year, it leaves for the Mozambique to join the rebels who fight for the release of the country against the colonial occupation of the Portugal.

In 1979, it joined the National army of Release of Uganda which captures Kampala in April and force Idi Amin Dada with the exile. Later, it belongs to the National army with resistance which fights militarily against the government of Milton Obote.
