Fraud-of-Brittany

Fraud-of-Brittany is a common French, located in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine and the area Brittany. Its inhabitants is the Dolois .

History

The area of Fraud-of-Brittany was inhabited since good a long time as the very beautiful menhir testifies some to the Dolent field (9,30 m in height, one of largest of Brittany) which dates from the Neolithic era and is at the exit of city in direction of Combourg. In 1064, the Norman ones of the duke Guillaume Bastard the besiege the city. In 1076, the same duke Guillaume of Normandy, from now on named “the Conqueror” after his conquest of the England, lance a new military campaign in Brittany and invests Dol, whose seat is raised by the royal ost led by Philippe I {{er}}.

During the French revolution of 1789, Dol is the subject still of a seat. The cathedral will be transformed into stables.

The parish of Fraud belonged to the deanery of concerning Fraud évêché of Fraud and was under the term of Saint-Samson then of Notre-Dame.

  • Fraud-of-Brittany has one of most beautiful and higher Menhir of Brittany, the menhir of the field Dolent (9,30 m). Considering its form, it is allowed to think that it inspired Uderzo to illustrate that which is on the back of Obélix, this author having located his village of Gallic in the area of Saint-Cast.
  • Cathedral Saint-Samson , principal building of Granite of XII E and 13th century, large courtyard of the 14th century, very beautiful small courtyard of the 13th century, stained glass restored with medallions of the 13th century located in the chorus.
