Fraternity Remonstrante
The Fraternité remonstrante is a founded movement Protesting in Holland at the end of the 16th century by Jacobus Arminius
History
Foundation
By formulating the Arminianisme, Jacobus Arminius is put in dissension compared to Calvin on the Prédestination.
It defends the free examination like superior with the doctrines of the established Churches. In that, it shows a precursor of the theological Libéralisme, in particular of the liberal Protestantisme. Initially named arminiens , its partisans submitted a Remonstrance to the governments and the Assemblies of Plank and Holland in order to obtain more tolerance in their connection, in particular on behalf of the gomarists (of the name of François Gomar). From where the name of Remonstrants .
Institualisation
Simon Bischop (known as Episcopius) gains the support of Maurice de Nassau following the decision of Johan van Oldenbarnevelt, large boarder (governor) of Holland. After the execution of Johan van Oldenbarnevelt, Bischop is relieved and must be exiled with 12 ministers of religion under the charge of Semi-Pelagianism. See Guns of Dordrecht
It then writes the #Confession of Remonstrants which is used as a basis for the Remonstrante church since its return to the Netherlands in 1626.
-
is opposed to absolute predestination (of Calvin).
- Initially that safety is given by Christ for all humanity, though only the believers can profit from it. Later on Safety is free and universal,
- the man to exert his faith must be regenerated by the Holy Spirit, which is a gift of God.
- the man can resist the divine grace.
- the man can relapse in spite of the grace
Antipredestinatienne, its theology is subject to the influence of the work of Sebastien Castellion. It is during discussions with Remonstrants that Baruch Spinoza worked out its treaty théologico-policy.
Liberalism
With Petrus Hofstede de Groot (1802 - 1886), the movement evolves/moves in a liberal direction.
Its theology had a broad audience in Europe, which is characteristic of the romantic phase of Christian humanism; in the Netherlands, this current of thought is represented by the “theologists of Groningue” , this since 1830.
De Groot summarizes the matter of this movement of which it is the leader by writing that “most important in Christianity is the revelation and education as being given by God as a Jesus-Christ, so as to return to us increasingly similar to God” . The “Groningers” reject the dogma of the Trinité, the predestination and the expiatory justice of God. They recognize double divine and human nature and the capacity of the man to achieve the will of God with Its assistance.
For them, the crucifixion of Jesus was a revelation of the love of God, perfection of Jesus and culpability of the men, in order to lead them to be admiring in front of Jesus. Contrary to the position of Anselme de Canterbury on the reconciliation, the “Groningers” think that God did not send his son in the world so that he dies in order to expier the sin of the men but so that he gives birth to them with God. It is the spite of the men which involved the crucifixion of Jesus; the men need the moral capacity, refondator of the cross to be led to God.
Confession of Remonstrants
Article 1
This God, by a goal eternal and immutable as a Jesus Christ his son, before the foundation of the world, determined, to save in the race déchue and pecheress of the men those which, in a Christ and by Christ by the grace of the Holy Spirit, will believe his/her Jesus son, and will persevere in this faith and obedience with the faith, by this grace, even in extreme situation; and, in addition, to leave the incorrigible one and incroyant it in the sin and under its anger, and to condemn them like far away from Christ, according to the word of Jean 3:36: “ That which believes in the Son with the eternal life; that which does not believe in the Son will not see the life, but the anger of God remains on him ” and according to other passages of Writing also.
Article 2
It is by its will, that Jesus Christ the saver of the world, died for all the men and each man, so that it obtained for them all, by his death on the cross, the repurchase and the remission of the sins; however nobody appreciates really this remission of the sins except the believer, according to the word of the Gospel of Jean 3:16, “Because God so much liked the world which it gave his Only son, so that whoever believes in him does not perish, but that it has the eternal life. ” And in the first Epistle of Jean 2:2: “because of the truth which remains in us, and who will be with us for eternity”, but also for the sins of the whole world?
Article 3
That the man with the sufficient grace to save itself, neither by the energy of its free will, since in the state of apostasy and the sin, it can neither a thought all alone, neither a will, nor though it either of really good (as the saving faith is eminently); still it is necessary that it is constant of God as a Christ, by her Holy Spirit, and renewed in its comprehension, inclination, or will, and all its capacities, so that it can correctly understand, to think, to make what is really good, according to the word of Christ, Jean 15:5: I am the stock, you are the vine shoots. That which remains in me and in which I remain fruit door much, because without me you can nothing make.
Article 4
That this grace of God is the beginning, the continuation, and the achievement of all the good, even until this degree, that the man regenerated itself, without his providence, its assistance, its alarm clock, the follow-up of this co-operative grace, cannot nothing think of good, nor to resist all temptations of the evil; so that all the good deeds or movements, among those which can be conceived, must be allotted to the grace of God as a Christ but because of the mode of operation of this grace, it is not irresistible; as much write it; some resist to the Esprit saint as shows it Actes 7, and much of other places.
Article 5
That those which are incorporated in Christ by the true faith, and, so became members of its spirit generating the life, have full right and capacity to fight against Satan, the sin, the world, and their own flesh, and to obtain the victory, given that the acting grace of the Holy Spirit and that the assistance of Jesus Christ in front of all temptations, prolongs their hands, and so only they are ready for the conflict, and wish his assistance, and are not inert, preserves them to choir, so that they, without any artifice or power of Satan, cannot be misled nor piers out of the hands of Christ, according to the Word of Christ, Jean 10:28: “I give them the eternal life; and they will never perish, and nobody will charm them with my hand. ” But if they are able, by negligence, of the abandonment at the beginning of their life as a Christ, or of the return to this current world and bad, dese détouner of the holy doctrines which was taught to them, to lose their clear conscience, becoming free from grace, which must be given in particular out of the Scriptures, before us puissionsl' to teach ourselves with the full persuasion of our spirit.
These articles, thus determined and taught, Remonstrants consider in agreement with the word of God, tending to the construction, and, with regard to this argument, sufficient for safety, so that it is not necessary or edifying to further seek or to dig deeper.
