Frasne-the-Castle is a common French, located in the department of the Haute-Saône and the area Franche-Comté.

The territory of the commune of Frasne the Castle extends partly on the calcareous plate from the Mounts from Gy and the edge Is Plain of the Saone. These two units are limited by the fault of the Saone, a great geological structure which extends from the area vésulienne to the Solid mass of the Greenhouse close to Pares and racorde with the faults of the Bresse. The plain of the Saone is a trough fault which subsided along this fault. The geological formations of the commune of Frasne the castle go from bluish or red very compact limestones, exploited in the past with the locality " carrières" and still visible in the career close to Grachaux, with argillaceous limestones, marnes and sands which are primarily in the plain. The old one of these formations is very variable and covers the period of -150 million years to deposits of a few million years in the plain. One finds in abundance of flints of the tertiary era on the territory of the commune as well as well developed and formerly exploited ferugineuses concretions. The abundance of flints gave rise to workshops of prehistoric sizes which one can find the vestiges.
