Franz von Hipper
Franz Ritter von Hipper (born the September 13rd 1863 with Weilheim - deceased the May 25th 1932 with Hamburg) Military German.
Of Bavarian family, Hipper engaged in the imperial navy at just 18 years in April 1881. It begins its career on the frigate Niobe and Leipzig . With the autumn 1884, it is promoted officer.
From 1903, Hipper is with the head of the IE division of destroyers. Promoted rear-admiral in 1912, it orders as from October 1913 the forces of recognition of Hochseeflotte. When the First World War bursts, it orders the cruisers of battle against the Royal Navy. Thus in December 1914 the coastal towns of Scarborough, Whitby and Hartlepool are bombarded.
It is him which orders at the time of the Bataille of Dogger Bank on January 24th, 1915 but also at the time of the Bataille of Jutland on May 31st, 1916. Hipper prevails then like big boss of marine. In June 1916, the King of Bavaria Louis II the fact member of the knighthood.
In August 1918 it succeeds Reinhard Scheer as an admiral and commander-in-chief of Hochseeflotte. It takes its retirement with the end of the year 1918 and settles in Hamburg where it dies on May 25th, 1932.
