Franz Fischler is a Politician Austrian, born the September 23rd 1946 in Absam (the Tyrol) in Austria in a family of farmer. He is married and has four children.

Formation

He undertook studies of agriculture to the faculty of agronomy of the university of Vienna, then Acquis the title of Dr. the RER. nat. oec. in November 1978.

Career

From 1973 to 1979 he was assistant at the institute of agricultural business management of Vienna in the section devoted to “agricultural regional planning”. Then of 1979 to 1984, attending the direction of the room of agriculture of the Tyrol, person in charge in particular of the questions of culture and formation, town and country planning and environmental protection. He becomes director of this room of agriculture of 1985 to 1989. Between 1989 and 1994, Fischler was federal minister for agriculture and sylviculture, while being also of 1990 to 1994 deputy with the National council of the Republic of Austria. It will be European Commissioner with agriculture, with rural development (and of fishing for its second mandate) the ten following years of its life first of all in the Commission Santer of 1995 to 1999 then in the Commission Prodi of 1999 to 2004.

From May 24th to 27th 2001, it took part in the annual conference of the group of Bilderberg. He is currently member of the Board of directors of the Think tank the Friends of Europe .
