Franz Carl Mertens , born the April 3rd 1764 with Bielefeld and deceased the June 19th 1831 with Bremen, was a German Botaniste .

Biography

His/her father, Clamor Mertens, are of noble but poor origin. He studies the Théologie and the Langue S with the university of Market and obtains a station at the polytechnic school of Bremen. He devotes all his spare time to his passion: the Botanical . Thanks to a mutual friend, it meets the botanist Albrecht Wilhelm Roth (1757-1834) of Oldenburg. The two men travel together, Mertens devoting themselves to the study of the Algue S.
