Franz Abt

Franz Abt (December 22nd 1819 - March 31st 1885) was a German Compositeur .

He was born with Eilenburg in the Saxony and showed very young person a musical talent. He was registered with the Thomas School with Leipzig and published his first works in this city.

He became Kapellmeister with Bernburg in 1841 then with Zurich the same year. He became musical director with the théàtre of Brunswick of 1852 with 1882. He withdrew himself with Wiesbaden and died there in 1885.

He composed more than 500 works during his life, his songs being very popular of which most famous When the Swallows Homeward Fly .
