The Airport Franz Josef Strauß of Munich (Code AITA: million u.a. ; Code ICAO: EDDM ) is located 28 km at the North of Munich.
In 2006 more than 30.7 million passengers passed there, making of Munich the 2nd airport Germany and 7th of Europe. In 2006, for the second consecutive year, the airport of Munich fur named better airport of Europe (" Best Airport in Europe") and 3rd on a world level (after the International airport of Singapore and the International airport of Hong-Kong) by Skytrax.
The airport was baptized Franz Josef Strauß, which played a big role in the German policy. Amongst other things Strauß was long-term a Prime Minister in Bavaria. In the area of Munich, the majority of the people prefer the term “Flughafen München” (airport of Munich), sometimes “Flughafen München II” or simply million u.a. The company directing the airport names it Flughafen Mr. München”.
Terminal 2 was completed in June 2003. This terminal is mainly used by the members of the Star Alliance. The Lufthansa increases there also to a significant degree its offers towards international destinations. Indeed the Aéroport of Frankfurt at present reaching its capacity certain destinations with large frequencies are distributed between Frankfurt and Munich.
