František Maxmilian Kaňka

František Maxmilian Kaňka (August 19th 1674, Prague - July 14th 1766, idem) is a Architecte Baroque in Bohemia.

Biography

It begins its training in his father, Vít Václav Kaňka then continues it while travelling in Italy and to Vienna. In its return, he collaborates with the architects Giovanni Battista Alliprandi and Jan Blažej Santini-Aichel. He becomes citizen of the Old city of Prague. In 1709, it tries to found an Academy of arts but in vain. It binds friendship and collaborates with the painter Václav Vavřinec Reiner and the sculptor Matyáš Bernard Braun, author of the majority of the statues of the Pont Charles.

In 1724, it is named imperial architect.

He works for the Jésuites, in particular with the Clementinum and builds there:

  • entered of the vault of the ices (1724)
  • the college library (1727)

He also works for Augustiniens, Cisterciens and the nobility of Bohemia (Valdštejn, Černín, Mansfeld, Pacht, Trautmansdorf and Vrtba, inter alia), and one can say that it is one of the most fertile architects (his exceptional longevity, in fact, serves it) of the Czech baroque.
