František Xaver Brixi (or Franz Brixi in the germanized version) is a Czech type-setter , born the January 2nd 1732 with Prague and deceased the October 14th 1771

Biography

Wire of the type-setter Simon Brixi, it receives a musical education with the college piarist of Kosmonosy. One of its professors is the type-setter Václav Kalous.

In 1749, Brixi goes back to Prague, where it employed like Organiste in various churches. In 1759, it is named at the prestigious station of Kapellmeister (choirmaster) of the Cathédrale Saint-Guy of Prague at only 27 years. It will remain at this station until its death.

Works

He wrote approximately 290 religious parts, of the Cantate S and Oratorio S, of the Chamber music and the orchestral music. Its concertos for organ, which were recorded with many recoveries, are certainly its most known works.

Style

The music of Brixi is distinguished from its contemporaries by his melody inspiration, its promptness and sometimes an instrumentation with few instruments. Of alive sound, its music was copied in all the Bohemia and the Moravie.
