Frans Halls
Frans Halls (Antwerp, 1581 (?) - Haarlem, August 26th 1666) is a Dutch painter specialist in the portrait.
Biography
The birth date of Frans Hals is discussed, certain historians giving birth to it in 1585, i.e. about the time when its family leaves Antwerp to settle in Haarlem. Probably formed by Carel van Mander of 1600 to 1603, it is registered in 1610 at the guild of the painters.
It passed all its career to Haarlem, painting individual portraits, portraits of group, Trogne S… Its manner is characterized by work of the matter to the knife, in thickness, very quickly. It is with Rembrandt one of the Dutch great painters of portrait of this period. A museum with Haarlem bears its name.
