Franklin Sousley

Franklin Runyon Sousley , born the September 19th 1925 and deceased the March 21st 1945, one of the six Marines American was immortalisé by Joe Rosenthal on photography Raising the Flag one Iwo Jima , at the time of the Bataille of Iwo Jima during the Second world war.

Biography

Franklin Sousley was born with Hilltop, in the Kentucky, second of three wire of the Duke couple and Goldie Sousley. In old three years, his/her five years older brother dies of the Appendicite. His/her other brother, Julian, are born at May 1933. Just a year after, the father the Franklin one dies of the diabetes at the thirty five years age.

Sousley receives its order of Conscription at the 18 years age, and decides to engage in the body of Navy of the United States. After an important drive, it is found in the 5th division of the navy within the framework of the Bataille of Iwo Jima. In company of John Bradley, Will go Beam, Rene Gagnon, Harlon Block, and Michael Strank, it will help with the installation of the Drapeau of the United States at the top of the Suribachi mount, immortalized in the famous photography of Joe Rosenthal.

The importance of photography as element of promotion of the war was immediately identified, and a letter was sent to Sousley so that it turns over in America, within the framework of a support campaign for the effort of war. The letter will not arrive in time.

Died

The March 21st 1945, the Sousley soldier is reached mortally by a shot in the back, of an isolated Japanese gunner, whereas it made a turn of recognition of the island. It was nineteen years old. It was buried the May 8th 1947, in the cemetery of Elizaville, the Kentucky.
