Franklin J. Schaffner

Franklin J. Schaffner is an American realizer , it was born the May 30th 1920 with Tokyo and died the July 7th 1989 with Santa Monica.

It carried out many rather modest films, before meeting success at the end of the Années 1960 with Papillon , an adaptation of the biographical novel of Henri Charrière, convict of Guyana, interpreted by Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman.

In 1965, it carries out the Lord of the war , with Charlton Heston, which it finds in 1968 for one of the masterpieces of science fiction: the Planet of the monkeys , according to a novel of Pierre Swell. the Planet of the monkeys on a scenario of Rod Serling, previously creator and narrator of the series the Fourth Dimension had an enormous success, giving rise to four continuations as well as televised series and an animated series.

Schaffner adapts also a novel of Ira Levin, author of Rosemary' S Baby : These boys who came from Brazil , with Gregory Peck, which tells the foolish project of old a Nazi, the doctor Josef Mengele, wishing to found one 4th Reich by clonant children.
