History

The first number of the FAZ appears on November 1st 1949. The newspaper is then directed by Erich Welter and is composed of a team of journalists resulting from the Frankfurter Zeitung.

The newspaper introduces into its columns the 1999 the reform of the German language of 1996 but gives up it one year later asserting the fact that this one has ambiguities. Because of its traditional sobriety of presentation, the introduction of the color into the newspaper was particularly disputed by its readers. Today, an electronic version of the FAZ is available on the site of the newspaper.
