Frank James

Aignes is a common French, located in the department of the Haute-Garonne and the area the Midday-Pyrenees.

Its inhabitants is called Aignois.

Geography

This small village is located at one fifty of kilometers of Toulouse in the Lauragais, on the common master key the Aïse and the Tédèlou.

The population of this village is mainly agricultural with a supercifie of approximately 1500 cultivated ha and a ground with dominant argilo- Calcaire to 30% of Argile.

History

Old batisde

Historical information, goes back to the XIIIe century where it is question of saint Bauzille d' Aignes; the knights of Midsummer's Day of Jerusalem, owners of this territory, encouraged people to settle at the village.

To the 14th century, Aignes passed under the Juridiction of the Consul S of Cintegabelle and was regarded as integral part of this village. It is only in July 1882 which Aignes took again the autonomous statute of commune.

  • the church had to undergo the damage of the wars of religion and she escaped from little from the total destruction under the Révolution. Its current form dates from the medium of the XIXe century

Personalities related to the commune

  • the painter Guillaume Cammas was born in Aignes in 1688. He was also architect and we let us owe him the frontage of the Capitole and the Royal Académie of painting of Toulouse.
