Frank Castorf
Frank Castorf (born on July 17th 1951 with Berlin) is a German director and the intendant of the Volksbühne amndt Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz since 1992.
Life From 1969 to 1970, Castorf follows courses near the Deutsche Reichsbahn. After having carried out its military service in the customs, it follows courses of theatrical studies of 1971 to 1976 at Ernst Schumacher, Rudolf Münz and Joachim Fiebach with the Université Humboldt of Berlin. The subject of its thesis of doctorate on Ionesco ( Grundlinien DER “Entwicklung” DER weltanschaulich-ideologischen und künstlerisch-ästhetischen Positionen Ionescos zur Wirklichkeit ) received the mention very well.
Of 1976 with 1978 he was playwright with the Bergarbeitertheater of Senftenberg. Following a blame, it is sent to the Stadttheater town of Brandebourg. There low, in 1984, under the pressure of local SED (Communist party of GDR), its setting in scene of the “Tambours in the Night” (Trommeln in der Nacht) of Bertolt Brecht is suspended. After the representation of its setting in scene of the doll's house (Nora) of Ibsen it follows a disciplinary proceedings which removes its contract to him.
Thereafter, Castorf works for Schauspielhaus of Karl-Marx-Stadt (today Chemnitz), Neue Theater de Halle, the Volksbühne and the Deutsches Theater in Berlin.
Starting from 1989 its settings in scene will be played in all the Germany, in particular with the Prinzregententheater and the Residenztheater of Munich like to the Schauspielhaus of Hamburg. He is intendant of Volksbühne amndt Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin-Mitte since 1992.
In 1994 it receives Fritz-Kortner-Preis and in 2000 it is rewarded with the actor Henry Hübchen by the price for the theater for Berlin for the Foundation Preußische Seehandlung like by a nomination with the Nestroy-Theaterpreis. In 2002 it receives Schillerpreis of the town of Mannheim and in 2003 the price of the International institute of the theater (Preis of the Internationalen Theaterinstituts) and Friedrich-Luft-Preis of the Berliner Morgenpost is decreed to him. The review of theater Theater Heute elected Castorf director of the year in 2002 and 2003.
In 2004 Castorf was director artistic of the Ruhrfestspiele of Recklinghausen. Because of difficulty financial, its contract lasted only one season.
