Frank-Walter Steinmeier
Frank-Walter Steinmeier , born on January 5th, 1956 with Detmold, is a German politician , member of the social democrat Parti (SPD). It is since November 2005 federal minister for the Foreign affairs in the Cabinet Merkel, and also vice-chancellor since November 2007.
Considered near to the former chancellor Gerhard Schröder, he was chief of the federal Chancellerie of 1999 to 2005.
Biography
Frank-Walter Steinmeier, wire of a carpenter, studied the Droit, of 1976 with 1980, then the political sciences, of 1980 with 1986, with the Université of Gießen. In 1991, it finished its studies with promotion (Dr. jur.).It adheres to SPD in 1976, year of the end of its military service and the beginning of its higher learning.
In 1991, it is engaged by Gerhard Schröder, at that time minister-president of the Land of Lower Saxony. In 1993, it is promoted principal private secretary of Gerhard Schröder.
After the victory of the SPD to the federal elections of 1998, it follows Schröder, become federal chancellor, and becomes initially Secretary of State to the federal Chancellery and chief of the intelligence services, then on July 7th, 1999 chief of the federal Chancellerie with row of Secretary of State after the resignation of Bodo Hombach.
During the negotiations of the autumn 2005 on the formation of a great coalition, it is had a presentiment of, on October 13rd, to become Foreign Minister future government directed by Angela Merkel. With the difference in many its predecessors Foreign Ministers, he does not become vice-chancellor, the function returning with Franz Müntefering. He is the social democrat to take the wallet of the Foreign affairs since 1982, the last having been Helmut Schmidt, which had cumulated these functions with those of federal chancellor, during two weeks in 1982. Steinmeier takes up duty the November 22nd 2005.
November 21st, 2007, Steinmeier becomes vice-chancellor following the departure of Müntefering.
