history
The concept of francs ripuaires is often opposed to the concept of Francs saliens. Whereas the Saliens had crossed the Rhine to be installed on bottom course of this river, the ripuaires always occupied the middle price of this river. They were thus located around Cologne, in current the Rhineland-of-North-Westphalia (Germany). The ripuaires then pushed their domination towards the south of the the Rhine (Worms and Spire) like along the Moselle (Trier and Metz). From there the denomination comes then from Rhenish francs.
