Francoise de Mercœur
Francoise of Lorraine , born in November 1592, died with Paris the September 8th 1669, was duchess of Mercœur, ''' Baronne of Ancenis ''', and duchess of Penthièvre. She was girl of Philippe-Emmanuel of Lorraine, duke of Mercœur, and Marie of Luxembourg, duchess of Penthièvre.
To conclude the peace between his/her father, which directed the Holy-League in Brittany, and Henri IV, it was married in 1609 with César de Bourbon (1594 † 1665), duke of Vendôme, and had three children:
- Louis (1612 - 1669), duke of Mercœur, then of Vendôme
- François (1616 - 1669), Duke of Beaufort, known as the King of the Markets
- Elisabeth (1614 - 1664), married to Charles Amédée of Savoy, duke of Nemours
Francoise of Lorraine is especially known for her great piety. She protected Vincent from Paul, and helped of his/her daughter, did not hesitate to pay its person to help the paupers of Paris and its fields. The agitated life of her husband forced it more once to take the way of the exile. But it had the regard of the Anne queen of Austria.
