Francisco Morals Bermúdez Cerruti

Francisco Morals Bermúdez (Lima, Peru, October 4th 1921 -), Military Politician and Peruvian, was president of the Republic of 1975 with 1980.

He is the grandson of the general Remigio Morales Bermúdez who was president of the Republic of 1890 with 1894. Of military formation started as of the 18 years age at the Military academy of Chorrillos, it occupied thereafter of the important functions with the CMEA (Center of High Military Studies) .il arrives in end of a career at the rank of major general.

During the first mandate of the president Fernando Belaúnde Terry, in 1968, he is Minister for Finance but resigns at the end of two months.

After the Coup d'etat of 1968, under the orders of the general Juan Velasco Alvarado, it is named Chief of the Staff, a function which it exerts of 1969 with 1974.

He is president of the Council of Ministers and holds the wallet of the Ministry for the War during the years 1974 and 1975 and as from February 1975, he is general-in-chief of the Army. It is at this station that it takes the head the August 29th 1975 of a coup d'etat against President Juan Velasco Alvarado. The next day it autoproclame President of the Republic.

But with the failure of its political reforms and economic, its government cannot maintain control military on the civil society and is seen finally in the obligation to convene elections with the participation of the political clouts of the country. A Constituent Assembly is elected in 1978 which works out the Constitution 1979 modifying that of 1933 promulgated during the presidency of Oscar R. Benavides. Francisco Morales Bermudez convenes elections for the following year.

In May 1980, the democratic elections carry to the capacity Fernando Belaúnde Terry, which assumes the presidency the July 28th.

After the end of its presidency, Francisco Morales Bermudez takes retreat compared to the Peruvian political life, making from time to time statements on the situation of the Army.

In 1985, it is presented to the presidential elections but obtains only 1% of the voices.
