The congregation of the Franciscaines Missionnaires of Marie was founded by Helene Marie Filipino of Chappotin de Neuville, in religion Sœur Marie of the Passion, (born on May 21st, 1839 with Nantes, died with Sanremo (Italy) on November 15th, 1904) which had received the January 6th 1877 the authorization of Pie IX to found new a Institut specifically intended for the Missions.

The July 9th 1900, 7 nuns of this congregation, hardly have just arrived in China, were martyrisées with Taiyuan-Insane:

  • Marie-Hermine of Jesus, Frenchwoman, 33 years, person in charge of the community.
  • the Marie della Pace, Italian, 24 years, youngest.
  • Maria Chiara, Italian, 27 years.
  • Marie de Sainte Nathalie, Frenchwoman, 35 years.
  • Marie de Saint Just, Frenchwoman, 33 years.
  • Marie Adolphine, Dutchwoman, 33 years.
  • Maria Amandina, Belgian, 27 years.
They were béatifiées by Pie XII with Rome the November 24th 1946, then canonized with Rome by Jean-Paul II the 1st October 2000.
