Francis Romain Wodié
Francis Wangah Romain Wodie is a Politician of the Ivory Coast born the February 25th 1936 with Abidjan. Resulting from the studied trade unionism, founding member of the League Of the Ivory Coast of the Human rights (LIDHO), he was president of the section of the Ivory Coast of Amnesty International (1985 - 1989), In the Seventies he founds one of the most powerful trade unions of the country: the National union of Research and Higher education (SYNARES). He was Minister for the higher education of 1998 with 1999. He is today general secretary of the PIT since 1990. He was official candidate of the Parti of the Ivory Coast the workers to the presidential elections of 1995 and 2000.
History and Course
- Francis Wodie begins as a militant within the Federation of the students of Black Africa in France (FEANF) with Djéni Kobina. It studies the right there.
- 1961 : It is stopped and expelled of the France towards the Ivory Coast. As of 1961 it is badgered by the mode with Felix Houphouët-Boigny for his activities considered to be subversive because of its engagement in the Syndicalisme.
- In 1962: He is imprisoned.
- In 1966: It starts to teach the right before being once again stopped a year later
- Francis Wodie does not make concessions and founds one of the most powerful trade unions of the country: the National union of Research and Higher education (SYNARES).
- 1973 : It chooses to be exiled in Algérie.
- Whereas it is aggregate of right in France, it returns to Abidjan and becomes the senior of the Faculty of Law.
- 1990 : The multi-party system being authorized, Francis Wodie benefits from it to create the PIT, party marginal of the opposition; he is elected the same year Député of Cocody, but is the only member of Parliament of his party
- 1995: He presents himself to the presidential election against Henri Konan Bédié whereas the other parties of the opposition prefer to boycott the election. He collects according to the official estimates 3,8% of the votes. The same year it loses its seat of deputy, the PIT is not thus represented more at the assembly.
- 1998 : He becomes Minister for higher education in the government of Daniel Kablan Duncan.
- 2000 : He presents one second time to the elections and collects 5.7% of the votes.
