Francis Rogallo began its career like Engineer with the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA) in 1936. At the end of the Years 1940 during its work at the research center of NASA in Hampton (Virginia), it begins creation from Aéronef S less expensive and more practices for the sport and the leisures. Rogallo works with this idea over its spare time.

He works on the biconical wings and with the flexible wings which preserve their form by the pressure of the air.

With his Gertrude wife, it produces models which it tests at his place in a small blower.

The first wings “Rogallo” are tested on August 15th, 1958 and function!

Its work will be at the origin of the delta wings (Deltaplane) which appear with beginning of the year 70, of the wing “Parawing” used for certain parachutes of help airships and also the kite with the principle of the Flexikite for which it receives in 1992 a price of the Smithsonian Institution.
