Francis Ouimet
Francis Ouimet , born the May 8th 1893 and dead the September 3rd 1967, is an American golfor, champion of England at the beginning of the 20th century and winner the US Open of 1913.
Young person American Caddy , inspired and influenced by the large golfor English Harry Vardon, it knows difficult beginnings in this sport at the time reserved with the Aristocratie. But while his/her father, Arthur Ouimet, Québécois workman, seek to dissuade it to practice a sport reserved to the gentlemen, his mother, Irish Mary, encourage it in secrecy. So that in 1913, at only twenty years, it is registered like amateur with the prestigious US Open. Thanks to the councils of its enthusiastic caddy, the small one and fatty Eddie Lowery, and inspired by the affection which the young middle-class woman Sarah Wallis carries to him, Francis succeeds, against any waiting, to overcome Vardon and to gain the competition, becoming thus the first amateur in all the history to do it. Vardon returned the following year to England to carry sixth British Open, record which remains unequalled to date .....
Francis Ouimet gained two other tournaments amateur thereafter and was regarded as one of the best ambassadors of the golf. Its objective being to become a prosperous financier, he remained amateur. Eddie Lowery, with which it remained friendly all its life, became multimillionaire.
