Francis Lemarque

Francis Lemarque , of its true name Nathan Korb , Singer French, born in Paris the November 25th 1917 and deceased the April 20th 2002 with Game preserve-Saint-Hilaire.

Biography

Francis Lemarque is resulting from a Jewish family having flees the Pogrom S of Eastern Europe. His/her mother, Rose, are originating in Lithuania, her father, Joseph, ladies' tailor, are Polish. The child grows with his Maurice brother and his young Rachel sister, in the district of the Bastille, rocked by the balls haversacks the Rue Lappe. The apartment of the family is located indeed at the top of the ball of the Three columns. It will keep throughout its life a true love for this district, and it will return there to celebrate its 75 years, with the Balajo.

It leaves the school at 11 years to go to work with the factory. In 1933, his/her father dies of the Tuberculose. Fascinated by the balls haversack, Nathan and his/her brother integrate in 1934 the group Mars, itself resulting from the " Group October " , affiliated with the Federation of the working Theaters of France. On the councils of Louis Aragon, the two brothers create a duet, " The Marc" brothers; who will benefit from the events of the Popular front to occur in the factories and to make known themselves. They become acquainted with Jacques Prévert, and Joseph Kosma is a time their pianist.

In 1940, Nathan passes in free zone and settles with Marseilles. Thanks to its agent (Jacques Canetti), it continues its career in solo, under the pseudonym of Francis Lemarque. It makes some rounds in North Africa of which a week of recitals with the guitarist gipsy Django Reinhardt. The deportation of his/her mother naturally leads it in the resistance. Under the name of Mathieu Horbet, he is imprisoned some time. He will become lieutenant Marc within a group of resistant.

Post-war period, Lemarque sings in cabarets of Saint-Germain-of-Meadows. In 1948, two events mark its life: it meets Ginny Richès which will become his wife, and it sees for the first time Yves Montand on a Parisian scene. It makes its knowledge via Jacques Prévert. In spite of its starting reserves it does not feel with the rising height of the talent of the star, their collaboration will last of many years, Lemarque writing for Montand of many songs of which " In Paris" , " My Soft vallée" , " Small ball bal" or " It is with the ombre".

The topic of Paris and its eternal accordion often returns in the songs of Lemarque by descriptions of the popular quarters, not without pointing out some Aristide Bruant.

Lemarque was also censured, which can lend to smiling nowadays, and which however at the time was current thing.

Its career will be that of an author and a singer deeply attached to popular Paris and the French song.
