Francis Groux
Francis Groux , born on July 28th 1934 in the periphery of Angouleme, is the founder of the International festival of the cartoon of Angouleme.
After having discovered the cartoon thanks to the projection of the Adventures of Tintin in still images, he subscribes with bold Coq, weekly magazine created by Marijac with the Release. It is nevertheless many years later, by offering a republication of the to him Cigares of the Pharaon of Hergé that his wife will start her passion of the cartoon. This interest will be seen then consolidated by the reading of the catalog of the first great traditional exposition to the cartoon with the Musée of decorative Arts, in Paris in 1967. Eager to better do to know the 9th art around him, Francis Groux creates in April 1969, in Angouleme, one week of the cartoon.
Elected official at the Municipal council of Angouleme in 1971, Francis Groux become acquainted there with Jean Mardikian: their common passion involves them to visit, in October 1973 and in company of Claude Moliterni, the festival of Lucca (Italy). They return from this voyage with the ambition to create in Angouleme a French version of Lucca, with the agreement of the organizers of this demonstration: the international fair of the cartoon is born at the end of January 1974. As of its first edition, the mediatization of Angouleme is very strong: it receives major authors (Franquin, Harvey Kurtzman, Fred, Gotlib, inter alia), of the editors and nearly 10.000 visitors.
The following year, the association of the festival is created. General secretary of the living room in 1974 and 1975, Francis Groux assumes the direction until 1980 of it. From 1989 to 1995, he is vice-president of the association of the Festival and for ten years, Francis Groux has been always present near the teams of the Festival, in particular as a voluntary police chief of exposures.
Head of undertaking to the retirement, it is very implied in the associative sector through 15 different structures. Francis Groux was elected, for 2 years, chair association of the International festival of the cartoon of Angouleme in June 2006.
