Francis Gourvil
Francis Gourvil , known as Fanch Gourvil (or Barr-Ilio ) is Breton writer and a linguist specialist in the Celtic literatures, born the July 5th 1889 with Morlaix, dead the July 19th 1984 with Villeneuve-Saint-Georges.
Biography
Resulting from a modest milieu, the town of Morlaix grants a purse to him in order to follow the Celtic studies of the faculty of Rennes, of which it is graduate. The years morlaisiennes put it in relation to Pierre Cavellat. In Rennes he attends in particular Anatole Braz and Georges Dottin and is recognized like one of the best experts of the Celtic literatures. During the First World War, it is affected with the postal control of the military censure. Of return to Morlaix, it holds a bookstore and works in particular for the West-Flash. Parallel to its work, it militates with the Breton regionalistic Union, then with the Breton nationalist Parti, the Parti Breton separatist, and with the Breton national Parti that it leaves in 1938. It would have then passed during the Second world war in the Résistance. He in any case would have been denounced like such by Yann Bricler, and is stopped like his wife by the Gestapo. With the Release, He is in any case member of the Committee of Release of Morlaix. One owes him a thesis partisane on the Barzaz Breiz of Theodore Hersart of Villemarqué constant in 1960 at the University of Rennes, in which it questions the authenticity of certain texts. In 1989, Donatien Laurent, having had access to the manuscripts of the Barzaz Breiz , shows in its thesis that the arguments of Gourvil are not founded.
