Professor of sociology and anthropology at the University of Franche-Comté, interprets Rousseau, of Halbwachs, Gurvitch and of Marcuse, Francis Farrugia continues epistemological research and histories in Sociologie of knowledge and culture on the genesis, the memory and the value of the sociological Catégorie S, like in political Sociologie, of the ethical and the moral life. Its research relates on the construction of human in the Western company, particularly to the Social link, the Démocratie and the social pact.

It is responsible for the group of research (rtf 10-AFS) “Sociology of knowledge, epistemology, history of sociology” in the French Association of Sociology, as well as international committee of research (CR14-AISLF) “Sociologie of knowledge” in the International association of the Sociologists of French language.

It directs the series " Sociology of the connaissance" with the editions Harmattan.
