Francis Dhomont (November 2nd 1926, Paris, France) is a type-setter of Musique electroacoustic resident with Avignon, France.

Formation and career

Francis Dhomont was the pupil of Ginette Waldmeier, Charles Koechlin and Nadia Boulanger. Towards end of the year 40, in Paris (France), he discovers intuitively, thanks to the magnetic wire, which Pierre Schaeffer will name the “concrete music” and tries out as a recluse the musical possibilities of sound recording. Later, giving up the instrumental writing, it will be devoted exclusively to the electroacoustic composition.

Burning exégète of the acousmatic method, its work is, since 1963, exclusively made up of parts on support which testify to an constant interest for a morphological writing and ambiguities between the sound and the image that it can cause.

The Council of arts and the letters of Quebec allotted to him one of its prestigious purses of career. In 1999, it obtained the first five prices for four of its works in international contests (Brazil, Spain, Italy, Hungary and Czech Republic). In 1997, member elect of the Lynch-Staunton Price of the Council of arts of Canada, he was also the guest of DAAD in Berlin (Germany). Five times crowned by the international Contest of music electroacoustic of Bourges (France) - in particular Price of Magisterium in 1988 - and 2nd price at the Price Ars Electronica 1992 (Linz, Austria), it received for its works of many distinctions.

It ensured the direction of special issues the editions Musiques & Recherches (Belgium) and of “Quebec Electroacoustic: rise” - for the review Circuit (Montreal). Musical Coresponsable of the Dictionary of media arts (published by UQAM), he is also lecturer and carried out several emissions for Radio-Canada and Radio-France.

From 1978 to 2005, it shares its activities between France and Quebec where it taught at the University of Montreal of 1980 to 1996. It resides since at Avignon (France) and frequently interprets its works in France and abroad. Large traveller, it sits on many jurys.

Approved type-setter of the Center of Canadian music (CMC, 1989), it is one of the founding members (1986) of the Community Canadian electroacoustic (CÉC) of which he became honorary member in 1989.

He devotes himself today to the composition and the theoretical reflection.
