Since the May 18th 2003 until June 2007: senator elected directly by the French electoral college, on the list of Front National. It more precisely occupied the place of temporary first on the list carried out by Audrey Rorive, which yielded its place to him, preferring to remain at the Parliament of Brussels.

Francis Detraux is the companion of Jacqueline Merveille, which was general secretary of the FN lasting more than ten years.

In 2004, Francis Detraux made dissidence, with his/her partner, following multiple conflicts with Daniel Féret and founded National Force, in company of former deputy FN Juan Lemmens and of temporary deputy FN Georges-Pierre Tonnelier. These conflicts related in particular to the accounts of Front National (Francis Detraux was the treasurer of the lasting party of many years).

The senator co-opted Michel Delacroix having decided to continue to sit under the label Front National, Francis Detraux wishing to sit to him National Force, a new bunch of extreme right-hand side, the Office of the Senate decided, in 2005, not to more recognize with these two elected officials the right to form a group and thus to profit from the advantages which are dependant there. Francis Detraux sits like independent since then. Chief candidate FORCES NATIONAL with the election of June 10th, 2007, it was not re-elected.
