Sir Francis “Frank” Darwin is a British Botaniste , born the August 16th 1848 with Down House, Downe in the Kent and dead the September 19th 1925.

It is the third wire and the seventh child of Charles Darwin (1809-1882). He studies with the Trinity College initially the mathematical then the Natural science is graduate in 1870. He studies the Médecine at the medical school of the hospital St Georges and obtains a Bachelor off Medicine in 1875, but will never practice medicine.

Francis Darwin Marie three times. The first time with Amy Ruck in 1874 but it dies in 1876, four days after the birth his/her son Bernard Darwin (1876-1961), future writer on the Golf. Francis Darwin remarie with Ellen Crofts, union of which will be born Frances Crofts Darwin (1886-1960), poetess which will marry with the poet Francis Macdonald Cornford (1874-1943). Ellen Crofts dies in 1903. Francis Darwin remarie in 1913 with Florence Henrietta Fisher (1854-1920) playwright, widow of Frederic William Maitland (1850-1906). Always in 1913, Francis Darwin is anobli.

He works on the movement of the plants and is interested in particular in the Phototropisme. With his father, it publishes in 1880, The Power off Movement in Seedlings . Its observations allow the discovery of the Auxine.

Francis Darwin becomes member of the Royal Society the June 8th 1882. It makes appear in 1887, The Autobiography off Charles Darwin then several collections of correspondences of his father: The Life and Letters off Charles Darwin (1887) and More Letters off Charles Darwin (1905). It publishes the book of Thomas Henry Huxley (1825-1895) off One the Reception the Origin off Species (1887).

It receives the Médaille Darwin in 1912.
