Francis Anthony Dahlen
Francis Anthony (Tony) Dahlen is a seismologist American born the December 5th 1942 with American Falls, Idaho, the United States and dead on June 3rd, 2007 with Princeton, New Jersey, the United States.
Academic biography
After its Bsc in 1964 with Caltech, it passes its Msc and its Doctorate to the the University of California of San Diego. It makes a post-doctoral stay with the Université of Cambridge in England before becoming Professor Attending the Department of Geological Sciences and Geophysics of the Université of Princeton, New Jersey, the United States. Professor Associé in 1975, it is named Professor de Géophysique in 1979 at the Department of Géosciences of the University of Princeton. He is Directeur of this department of 2001 with 2006.
Leg
Tony Dahlen is a pioneer of the studies on the free oscillations of the Earth. He also developed a new vision of the seismic tomography on a total scale (cores of sensitivity of the type Banana-Doughnut ). Author of many scientific publications, he is also the author of a theoretical book of seismology “Theoretical Global Seismology” published in 1998, Co-writing with Jeroen Tromp (former student of Tony Dahlen, now Professor with Caltech and Directeur of the Seismological Laboratory).
