Francesco Rutelli
Francesco Rutelli (Rome, June 14th 1954) is a Italian Politician, former mayor of Rome, federal president of the Marguerite (Margherita) and Député with the Camera dei deputati where he is Member of the Commission of the Foreign affairs.
Wire of an architect, his great-grandfather was a famous sculptor, author of the fountain of the " Naiadi" with piazza Esedra (today piazza beyond repubblica) in Rome. It grew in a district cossu of Rome and it made its studies among Jesuits. True political animal, for 25 years Rutelli has very often changed opinion and of party. Near to Marco Pannella, he was elected Député with the Italian Radical party in 1983, then took part in the foundation of the I Made green of which he became national coordinator in 1992.
In April 1993 Carlo Azeglio Ciampi appoints it minister of environment, but he resigns the following day because the Italian Parliament refuses the continuations against Bettino Craxi (although the relationships to this last are excellent).
He was European Député of 1999 with 2004.
To advise of Rome since November 1989, in December 1993 it is elected mayor of Rome with a coalition PDS (Democratic party of Left, the ex Italian Communist party), Verts and independent of center. Then, the coalition will be extended to PP (Popular party), small formations centrist heiress of the left garlic of the Christian Democrat. The city will be managed since by a formation of center-left. Re-elected in 1997 for five years.
As a mayor it was primarily devoted to promote its image. It starts excellent relations with the industrialists. bankers and manufacturers, " poteri forti" (the Almightyes) of the Eternal City. Media character, one of his close relations is Pietro Calabrese, of June 1996 at September 1999 directing of the drafting of Messaggero, the newspaper more diffused in Rome (and whose editor is a manufacturer).
He takes his distances from the Greens and in 2000 joined the Margherita, an moderate establishment which assimilates PP and other personalities of the center. In January 2001, it resigns of its post of mayor of Rome to conduct the campaign of legislative of March and to carry the colors of the center-left against Silvio Berlusconi. But, criticized for its lack political thickness and its convictions considered little affirmed, Rutelli fails to present an image of credible leader and is beaten by Berlusconi.
It is called " Er Piacione" (" the beautiful guy sympa" in Roman slang), ironic allusion to its advantageous physique and its consensual standpoint.
In June 2006, it is named vice-president of the Council of Ministers and Minister for the cultural Goods within the 2nd government of Romano Prodi.
His wife Barbara Palombelli, journalist and écrivaine, are freelance journalist at Corriere beyond Will be.
