Francesco Robortello

Francesco Robortello (1516-1567) was an Italian philologist and a Humaniste of the Rebirth.

Born with Udine, he professed the humanities with Lucques, Venice, Padoue, Bologna, and had with several scientists, in particular with Sigonius, of the contentions so sharp that the senate of Venice was seen obliged to impose silence to them on both.

In addition to editions of Eschyle, Pseudo-Longin, Tactical of Élien, one has of him:

  • Of historica facultate , Florence, 1548;
  • Of vita and victu populi romani sub imperatoribus Caesaribus Augustis , Bologna, 1559.
