Francesco Landini

Francesco Landini or Landino (* v. 1325 with Florence (?) – † September 2nd 1397) was a Compositeur, Organiste, Chanteur, Poète and factor of instruments Italy N of the 14th century.

Biography

Information on the life of Francesco Landini is very fragmentary, but nevertheless, certain facts left some trace, and the few episodes of its life which we know result from research in the files of the town of Florence. The majority of the biographical elements relating to Landini come from a work published in 1385 by the famous chronicler Florentin Filippo Villani, who was born around 1325 and was thus the contemporary of Landini.

Landini was most probably born with Florence, although its great-grandson the Humaniste Cristoforo Landino indicates like birthplace the town of Fiesole. His/her father, probably Jacopo del Casentino, a good painter, raises Giotto, was downward famous family of Landini.

Francesco most famous and the most was certainly appreciated type-setters of the second part of the 14th century in Italy.

Of 1365 to its death, it lived with Florence, where he was organist of the basilica San Lorenzo.

Its compositions represent approximately a quarter of the Italian music of the 14th century which is currently known for us.
