Francesco De Gregori

Francesco De Gregori is a Italian song writer and performer , born with Rome the April 4th 1951.

Biography

It spends a few years of its childhood to Pescara to turn over to Rome at the end of the Fifties.

It occurs in Folkstudio (very known establishment of the musicians of the whole world located in the district of Trastevere in Rome), initially as guitarist of Caterina Bueno and then with other intended friends, them also, to be known on the music scenes: Antonello Venditti, Mimmo Locasciulli and George Cascio. For a short period, they occur together, then Francesco and George form a duet which refers, by many aspects, with the American duet of Simon and Garfunkel.

Its initial repertory includes/understands songs of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen translated into Italian. He adds, thereafter, of the personal texts.

In 1971 it signs a contract with recording company IT. The following year, it publishes the album Theorius Campus with its own texts and those of Antonello Venditti.

Its first personal album is Alice not lo her (1973), which includes/understands the very known song " Alice" , a song which revolutionizes the codes of the Italian song of the moment.

Follows the album Francesco De Gregori (more known under the name of " Brebis" because of the image of the cover). Its work is appreciated criticism in spite of a tendency to hermetism. Great success arrives with Rimmel in 1975, one of the most sold discs decade. It is followed by Bufalo Bill the following year. The same year, a violent dispute on behalf of a group of extreme left stops its career during two years. It begins again with same strength in 1978 with success De Gregori , an album containing the famous song " Generale" . The following year is that of the great success of the album of the round with Banana Republic , carried out in collaboration with Lucio Dalla, Ron and the futures Stadio and of Viva Italia, song which entered the imaginary popular one. After a pause, it returns in the Eighties with excellent the Titanic (1982), generally regarded as the best album of Italy. He succeed the irresistible success of gave It cannonades , Q-Disc of the following year. From now on the critic and the public place it among the largest Italian composer-songwriters and it is called " It Principe". It continues its career, the following years, with works of an excellent level like Scacchi E tarocchi, which contains a success very known like the storia, Terra di nessuno (1987), which contains splendid the " Mimì sarà" . In 1990, upsetting commercial logic, it publishes at the same time three albums in “live”. Three years later, another with It will follow bandito and it campione, the énième public success. Meanwhile, it published Canzoni of amore (1992). In 1998 " Valigia dell' attore" receives the price Targa Tenco like the best song of the year.

In 2001, it leaves Amore nel pomeriggio , for which it collaborates, for arrangements, with artists recognized like Franco Battiato and Nicola Piovani. The disc obtains Targa Tenco like better work of the year, ex-aequo with Vinicio Capossela. In 2002, De Gregori, surprising like always, leaves a disc Italian popular songs, It fischio LED vapore, in collaboration with Giovanna Marini, which obtains an unhoped-for success. In 2003 is published the biography entitled Quello che not so, lo so cantare (what I do not know, I can sing it, published by Giunti. The Roman singer returns with an album of news in 2005 with Pezzi which allocates again Palque Tenco for the best album of the year. In 2006, in an unexpected way, only eleven months after the exit of its last disc of news, De Gregori publishes a new album, " Calypsos" , with nine new pieces. Between this Cardiologia , a song where, more than 30 years after " Pezzi di Vetro" , the Roman composer-songwriter starts again to employ the words " Ti amo" " I you aime".
