Francesco Cossiga , born the July 26th 1928 with Sassari, is a Politician Italy N. (In Italian, his family name is generally marked; but one knows that the originating pronunciation is, with the accent about the first syllable: it is about a Sardinian name which wants to say Còrsica , i.e. Corsica .)
Professor of constitutional Law to the University of Sassari, entered any young person the Christian Democrat, near to the former president of the Republic Antonio Segni Francesco Cossiga finally joined the wing progressist of his party, whose chief was Aldo Moro. Appointed 1958 with 1979, senator of 1979 with 1985, it was 2 times under-secretary of state to Defense (1966 - 1970) and 5 times minister (1974 - 1978). In particular he was Minister of Interior Department of January 1976 at May 1978. He restructured the Italian police force, civil protection and the secret services. He was Minister of Interior Department at the time of kidnapping and the murder of Aldo Moro by the red Brigades. He resigned when Moro was found died, Via Michelangelo Caetani, the May 9th 1978.
He exerted the functions of president of the Italian Council of Ministers in two successive governments:
He was elected president of the Senate in June 1983. He then exerted, of June 1985 with 1992, the functions of President of the Italian Republic. He is elected with a majority crushing of deputies, senators and delegates of the Areas, including those of the Italian Communist party which were in the opposition. From 1990, it took its distances from the Christian Democrat and its declarations (“esternazioni”) with the press and on TV were done crashing to pieces. He resigned of his station in April 1992, therefore two months before the end of his mandate, to protest against certain aspects of the Italian political system.
Since 1992, he is senator with life as a former president of the Republic. In 1997 it founded a new centrist party, the UDR, which crumbled at once because of the scissions. Since then he declares himself catholic independent, but its standpoint and its declarations, always very virulent, are very often with the “one” of the newspapers.
