François de Surienne

François de Surienne (1398? - 1462?), known as the Aragonese, was a French artillerist and engineer.

The March 23rd 1449, whereas a truce had been signed between the France and the England, François de Surienne, qualified of adventurer to the pay of the English, seizes the Breton city of Fougères.

François de Surienne reforms in a modern direction the Fortification S of Dijon as of 1461 then that of the castle of Ferns. For that, it carries out the reinforcement of the fortifications of the old type by works placed ahead, thus protecting the old walls. The tortured layout appears then in certain parts of the fortification, as private individuals the weak points.
