François de Rovérié de Cabrières

François Marie Anatole de Rovérié de Cabrières (born the August 30th 1830 with Beaucaire, Gard - died the December 21st 1921 with Montpellier) was éclésiastique and catholic Intellectuel French, created cardinal by the Pape Pie X in 1911.

Biography

François de Rovérié de Cabrières is resulting by his father, Louis Eugene de Rovérié, marquis de Cabrières, of a family having the seigniory of Cabrières (Gard) since the 16th century. His/her mother, Guillemette Yvonne of the Fish pond of Fay-Solignac, belongs to a former family of the Dauphiné.

After studies with Nimes with the college of the Assumption, he becomes private secretary then Vicaire of the bishop of Nimes, Mgr Plantier. Named bishop of Montpellier the December 18th 1873, it is created cardinal the November 27th 1911. In 1907, at the time of large the wine demonstration of Montpellier, it makes open the doors of the cathedral and those of the churches of the city to make it possible to the wine growers strikers to spend the night there. He was a friend of Frederic Mistral and Félibre S, and received the Légion of honor which he had initially decided to refuse and finally accepted it.
