François de Montmorency
François de Montmorency (1530 † 1579) was duke of Montmorency, count de Dammartin, baron de Châteaubriant, and lord of Isle-Adam. Large Even Master of France and of France.
Biography
François was the oldest son of Anne de Montmorency, par and Connétable of France. He made his first weapons with the seat of Lenz in Piedmont, in 1551. He accompanied the King on the border by Germany, attended the catch of Damvillers and of Ivoy, was used with the seat as Metz, in 1552. It took part in the heroic resistance of the town of Thérouanne against the attacks of the troops of Charles Quint: finally, it had to go and was made prisoner on May 30th, 1553.On its return of captivity, it was made knight of the Ordre of Saint-Michel and was provided with the Government of Paris and the Île-de-France (1556). It was sent in Italy, with the help of the Pape Paul IV and taken again with Spanish the port of Ostie and some other places around Rome. It took share at the unhappy day of Saint-Quentin on August 10th, 1557, defended the Picardy against Spanish and attended the seat of Calais, in 1558. The King sent it in embassy near the Queen Elisabeth Ire of England to receive from it the commitment to observe the Peace treaty of the Cateau-Cambrésis. With died of King Henri II, it had to yield the load of Large-Master, inherited his father, with the duke of Own way. The King gave him then, the stick of Marshal of France in 1559.
He is married against his liking in 1557 with Diane de France, girl illegitimate of Henri II. He had before contracted a marriage remained secret, but after having undergone the lightnings of paternal anger, he subjected and married the princess.
“ Mister de Montmorency, known as Brantôme, was valorous, wise captain and extremely policy. For this, King when it went to make the turn of its kingdom, left it Gouverneur of Paris. It attended into 1560 the General states held with Orleans. It also took part on November 10th, 1567 in the battles of Saint-Denis where his/her father died.
While becoming duke, François continued to make to house of Montmorency the rival of that of the Own way. This competition did not cease being increasing, François having already had mesh to leave with the cardinal Lorraine at the time of a battle of street in 1565. In 1570, it with the task very difficult to make respect in Paris the Peace of Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer. In 1574, Charles IX lets it be allocated to the court, but hatred is so strong between him and the duke of Guise which it is constrained to leave again the court. Not having more anything to lose, it takes part in the plot of Malcontents, the “Tiers Party” of the duke of Alençon, but it is stopped and locked up with the Bastille with the marshal Artus of Thimble-Brissac. It is released in April 1575, and the King recognized his innocence by letters patent recorded at the Parliament. He died in the Château of Écouen on May 6th 1579 and was buried in the church of Saint Martin's day de Montmorency.
