François Stahly

François Stahly , born the March 8th 1911 with Constancy and dead the July 2nd 2006 with Meudon, is a Sculpteur pertaining to the news Ecole of Paris.

Biography

François Stahly is formed initially in Switzerland, since 1926 in Kunstgewerbeschule of Winterthour where the principles of the Bauhaus are taught. Settling in Paris, it is of 1931 to 1939 raises Charles Malfray with the Académie Ranson, where it meets Maillol and binds with Jean Moal, Jean Bertholle, Alfred Manessier and Etienne Martin. Member in 1936 of the group " Témoignage", animated in Lyon by Marcel Michaud, with Moal, Bertholle and Etienne Martin, it receives a first order for the house of the Woman to the World Fair of Paris in 1937, collaborating with Fred Littmann. In 1940 it leaves Paris for the community of Oppède, in the free zone, where remain in particular Etienne Martin, Bernard Zehrfuss and Consuelo de Saint-Exupéry. In Marseilles, it realizes then with Etienne Martin, Marcel Duchamp, Zehrfuss and max Ernst the decoration of the " Bar" Eden;.

Returned in Paris in 1945, François Stahly writes articles for “Werk”, “Graphis” and “Die Kunst”, published with Zurich. He installs in 1949 with his Claude wife a workshop with Meudon and is one of the members of the committee of the “Living room of the Young Sculpture”. Until 1960 it takes part in teaching Gurdjieff. He teaches then until 1965 at the University of Berkeley, in California, with Aspen (Colorado), Washinton and Seattle and carries out many works with Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Seattle.

In 1966, François Stahly carries out several official orders whose “Labyrinth” of the Faculty of Science of Jussieu in the 5 {{E}} district of Paris and the “Fountain” of the Floral garden of Vincennes, then creates between 1968 and 1970 the forest Park Top of the Crestet in the Vaucluse, together of dwellings and workshops. He makes in 1969 gift of part of his personal collection to the Museum of Meudon. After the illness and the death of Claude Stahly in 1973, with the assistance of Parvine Curie, its partner since 1975, and the support of the Ministry for the Culture, the forest Park takes again its activity in 1977, its workshops being placed at the disposal of stock-brokers and trainees.

François Stahly receives in particular the Grand Prix of Biennial of Tokyo in 1965, the Grand Prix of the Art schools of the Town of Paris in 1972, the National Grand Prix of the Sculpture in 1979 and is elected member of the Académie of the Art schools on December 9th, 1992 with the armchair of Nicolas Schöffer.

  • 1955-1958: Ceiling and wall-relief of the vault of the Blessed Sacrament of the House of the the Vatican to the World Fair of Brussels, in collaboration with Giacometti, Etienne Martin, Gisele Pinsard, Swoboda, Vera Pagava.
  • 1955-1960: Signal for the highway A6. Five water Chains for the basilica of the Crowned Heart in Paris.
  • 1956-1960: Fountain for the shopping mall of Courtilles with Asnières-sur-Seine.
