François Roustang
François Roustang is a Philosophe and Hypnothérapeute French born in 1923.
Biography
From 1956 to 1967, François Roustang contributes to the review Jésuite Christus , which it Co-directs with Michel de Certeau as from 1963. Then member of the Society of Jesus, it publishes Jésuites of new France in 1961 and an initiation with the spiritual life in 1963.
From 1965 to 1981, he is member of the École freudienne of Paris of Jacques Lacan. He follows short a two years analysis with Serge Leclaire. Whereas he saw this experiment like a release (he leaves the order of the Jesuits), it is struck to note the spirit of tender which reigns within the School freudienne. It is interested then in the question of the relations Master-disciple in the history of the Psychanalyse. In 1976, with the publication of a so disastrous destiny , it makes a critical reading of the relations between Sigmund Freud and some of its " disciples" such Sandor Ferenczi, Carl Jung or Georg Groddeck.
In 1978, it publishes the article Suggestion with the long course in the Nouvelle Review of Psychoanalysis, in which it underlines the role of the Suggestion in the analytical cure. This article will be shown in 1980 in its book It does not release it more… . The contributions of François Roustang to the review Critique in years 1980 illustrate its catch of progressive distance with the Psychanalyse and its interest for the Hypnose. In 1980 it publishes an article on the book of the Psychiatre Leon Chertok, the not-knowledge of the Psychiatrists , in 1983, an article on two books of Octave Mannoni. In 1985 it publishes an article on the book of the philosopher Michel Henry, Généalogie of the psychoanalysis . In this same time, in 1983, it takes part in a meeting on the Hypnose at the hospital Fernand Vidal in company of Rene Girard and Mikkel Borch-Jacobsen. Roustang is formed with hypnosis, in particular with Judith Fleiss. In 1986 it confirms the rupture with the heritage of Lacan with the publication of Lacan, of the ambiguity to the dead end .
Following the publication of Influence in 1991, then of What hypnosis? in 1994, François Roustang is essential little by little as a reference in the French-speaking world of those which seek to theorize the practice of the Hypnose. François Roustang collaborates then with several institutes of Hypnose like the French Institute of Swiss Hypnosis or the French Institute of Hypnosis.
He continues to publish many books of which some intended for the general public on the Hypnose and the Psychothérapie: How to make laugh a paranoiac? in 1995, the end of the complaint and the therapeutist and his patient with Pierre Babin in 2000, It is enough to a gesture in 2003 and To know to await in 2006. In 2005, it publishes a translation with accompanying notes of a text of Hegel under the title animal magnetism: birth of hypnosis . He also wrote the foreword of two books of Jean-Marc Benhaiem on the Hypnose: medical hypnosis in 2003 and Forget the tobacco! in 2005.
Influences
In addition to his clinical practice, which is with the source of its many writings, one finds in the work of François Roustang the influence of philosophers such Friedrich Nietzsche and Ludwig Wittgenstein. Bertrand Méheust also underlines the proximity of the position of Roustang with that of old the " hypnotizers ". Roustang is also inspired by work of many its contemporaries among whom one can quote Leon Chertok, Michel Henry, Michel Jouvet, Daniel Stern, and the sinologist Jean François Billeter. One will also mention the influence of Gregory Bateson on his thought.
