François Rauber

François Rauber (Neufchâteau, January 19th 1933 - December 14th 2003) was a Pianiste, Compositeur, Arrangeur and Leader French which one especially knows for his collaboration with Jacques Brel.

Career

After its studies of piano to the academy of Nancy, Rauber worked since 1951 in various Parisian cabarets like guide of artists such Boris Vian and Serge Gainsbourg. At the request of Jacques Canetti, he is the guide of Jacques Brel the July 23rd 1956 at the time of a representation with Grenoble. This meeting with Brel marks the beginning of a collaboration which was going to be prolonged until the death of Brel in 1978.

In April 1958, Rauber writes its first arrangements for Brel, to have shortly after known its beginnings like arranger for a recording of Simone Langlois.

Deep musical knowledge of Rauber - in particular as regards Chamber music and Running away S - brought a great enrichment to the music of Brel, which depended before that on its own accompaniments to the guitar (which was hardly spectacular) and on the services on leaders to the timetable charged. Rauber also convinced Brel not to more play of guitar in scene, which has as of this moment left the free field to the theatrical interpretation of Brel.

Brel and Rauber meant the personal plan also of course. Rauber was the godfather of Isabelle, the girl of Brel.

Apart from its activity like appointed arranger of Brel, Rauber worked during the years 1960 with many other artists, among whom Anne Sylvestre, Barbara, Juliette Gréco, Georges Moustaki, Isabelle Aubret, Pierre Selos and Charles Aznavour. It also composed of the film musics and traditional works.
