François Ouimet (Montreal, August 20th, 1959 -) is a politician Québécois and current the liberal Député of the district of Marquette to the National Assembly of Quebec. He was elected for the first time at the election of 1994.

Biography

Having studied in literature, Ouimet moved towards the right after having supplemented a Maîtrise in Littérature with the Université of Montreal (1984). It was interested partulièrement in the comparison of the characters distinct between French-speaking and anglophone literary works from Canada. In 1988, it supplemented a diploma in law to the Université McGill with Montreal.

François Ouimet worked initially within the private company while being lawyer with the cabinet Adessky, Poulin , of 1990 with 1994. It is following this employment that it decided to be plunged in the provincial policy.

François Ouimet is married and father of three children.

Its passage to the CECM

It will be at the same time chair Commission of the Catholic schools of Montreal (CECM) of 1991 1994. At this station, he will affirm at the time of his election as president, who he went fought against the introduction of the linguistic school commissions. However, François Ouimet will cause a dramatic turn of events in June 1994 when, at the time of the vote on the positioning of the CECM on the linguistic school commissions, it appuyera the opposition, resigning at the same time of his political training, the denominational school Regrouping.

He resigned finally of his station on August 29th, 1994 following the pressures of the opposition to the council of the police chiefs of CECM vis-a-vis his double role of liberal candidate and chair school commission.

Political life

Succeeding in 1994 Claude Dauphin as appointed Inlays, François Ouimet was made elect easily with the three following elections. With the election of 2003, it obtains its stronger majority by carrying the victory by: 13560 votes on its nearer adversary.

During its years in the opposition (of 1994 with 2003), it occupied various stations of spokespersons of which that of justice and the metropolis. It was named in 2003 Member of the special Commission for the study of the preliminary draft of law replacing the Electoral law. It was presented against three other liberal deputies in 2003 to the station of president of the National Assembly thus taking part in the first race of the history for this station between deputy of the same political training. At the end of the “countryside”, Michel Bissonnet had been elected.

He is currently assistant member of Parliament of the Minister for Transport, Julie Boulet.
