François Nicolas Benoit Haxo

François-Nicolas-Benoit Haxo (born the June 24th 1774 with Lunéville, dead the June 25th 1838 with Paris) was a French general during the French revolution and of the First Empire. He is the nephew of the general Nicolas Haxo.
States of service
He embraced soldiering early. He left lieutenant minors of the École of artillery and from the genius of Châlons-sur-Marne in 1793 and soon after became captain of the genious in the Armée with the Rhine in 1794. Its advance was done very slowly. In 1796, it follows the courses of the Polytechnic school (but is not Polytechnicien).At 35 years he was yet only major. It is true that it had deserved well this rank by important services with the Armée with Italy in 1800 and 1801. In 1801, it is Major following the catch of the Fort of Hand-barrow.
It was called the Vauban 19th century, because it reinforced and repaired the fortifications and the citadels, at the beginning of the Années 1800.
It was in 1807 with Constantinople with which it was charged to improve defense and went then in Italy under the general Chasseloup. In 1809, it ordered a battalion of attack to the head office of Saragossa and gave such evidence of skill that Napoleon i appointed it colonel. Called with the Armée with Germany it deserved, with Wagram, the cross of officer of the Légion of honor. Returned in Spain, it was in charge of the work management to the seats of Lérida and of Méquinenza, there showed as much zeal than of talent and was promoted with the Brigadier general rank of in 1810. Returned soon in France, it be-attache with the staff of the Emperor, accompanied it like assistance-of-camp in the countryside by Russia. The June 23rd 1812, it was alone with Napoleon when this one taking the Capote and the bonnet of a Polish light horseman recognized the edges of the Niémen and heights of Kowno.
The Haxo general was distinguished with the Combat from Mohilow and failed to be taken while seeking to rejoin 3rd hunters which had been surprised by a cloud of Cosaques. He was promoted, four months after, with the Major general rank of .
In 1813, the Emperor entrusted to him the command of the genius of the imperial Garde. In June, it put the town of Hamburg in a position to support a seat. After the Battle of Dresden, it followed in Bohemia Vandamme which, with the body, sought to make low put the weapons at a body of 40 000 men. The August 30th, with the Battle of Kulm, the Haxo general was wounded and made captive with the generals Vandamme and Guiot. It returned to France only to the First Restoration.
II the genius in the royal Guard at the time of the return of the Emperor ordered. It was with the Bataille of Waterloo, followed the army on the the Loire and came to Paris, with Kellermann and Gerard, to ask the provisional government which the army remained joined together as long as there would be a foreigner on the French soil, that no civil or military employee was not relieved and that nobody was worried, for his opinions.
These requests were rejected, but Haxo did not make of it less its tender with the Bourbon S.
In 1815, it is laid off under the Restauration. In 1819, it is reinstated like General inspector of the frontier fortifications (Grenoble, Besancon, Dunkirk, Saint-Omer, Sedan, Fort the Lock, Belfort, Bitche).
Haxo belonged to the Conseil of war called to judge the general Lefebvre Desnouettes and chose death. Appointed general inspector of his weapon and large officer of Legion-of honor, Louis-Philippe Ier named it Pair France in 1832, Grand Cross in 1833, adviser of State and member of the committee of the fortifications. It is known that he had decided against the detached forts and for the enclosure continues. In 1832, it had directed work and orders the Génie at the time of the Siège of the citadel of Antwerp. One owes him the fortifications of Belfort, of Grenoble, Besancon, Dunkirk, Saint-Omer and the Fort the Lock.
Its name is registered on the Triumphal arch of the Star.
