François Marie Durand
François Marie Durand , general French.
It ordered a brigade of division Garnier with the Armée with Italy, and which knew the bravery and the capacity of Jean-Baptiste Dommanget, hastened to call it near him in the capacity as assistance-of-camp; but it fulfills these functions only for two months: a disastrous event deprived France of the services of the Durand general.
The 22 fructidor year II (September 8th, 1794), the enemy was to attack the Durand brigade with the Col of Frememorte. As of the morning, Dommanget had been sent in recognition to observe the movements of the enemy. It returned account to its general whom the Austrians did not move and who all was quiet. Around three hours of the afternoon a storm of the more violent ones occurred; lieutenant Dommanget was lying between the Durand general and the captain Bodard, of the 84e half-brigade, under a tent leant with a wall of rubble; the lightning touches on this wall which collapses and buries the tent under its ruins. Dommanget was free for some contusions, but, when one withdrew remains the Durand general and the Bodard captain, they had died. After this deplorable catastrophe, Dommanget was useful during some time with the staff of Garnier division.
