François Mansart

François Mansart (Paris, January 23rd 1598 - id., September 23rd 1666) is a Architecte French. He is regarded as the principal precursor of the Baroque architecture in France.

Biography

Mansart is resulting from a modest family and profits from an early training near his/her brother-in-law, Sculpteur and Architecte. He works then with his uncle with Toulouse. At twenty-five years, it carries out the first work noticed on the frontage of the church of Breaking into leaf the in Paris, which is worth the “ to him patent of architect of the King for the service of his buildings ”.

In 1645, Mazarin calls upon him to rebuild the church and the monastery of the Valley-of-Grace. Its intransigent character and perfectionist prevent it from taking part in the great achievements which would have crowned the end of its life. In 1666, 68 years old and without descent, it dies of disease. Its influence on the Baroque architecture which will open out under the reign of Louis XIV will be prevalent.
