François Mansart (Paris, January 23rd 1598 - id., September 23rd 1666) is a Architecte French. He is regarded as the principal precursor of the Baroque architecture in France.
In 1645, Mazarin calls upon him to rebuild the church and the monastery of the Valley-of-Grace. Work begins in spring 1645 but, the following year, it is discharged from it with the profit from Jacques Lemercier. Its intransigent character and perfectionist prevent it from taking part in the great achievements which would have crowned the end of its life. In 1666, 68 years old and without descent, it dies of disease. Its influence on the Baroque architecture which will open out under the reign of Louis XIV will be prevalent.
