François Leg of Lapeyronie , born with Montpellier the January 15th 1678 and died in Versailles the April 25th 1747, is a Chirurgie French N. He was in particular the first surgeon and confidant of the king Louis XV.

Biography

His/her father, originating in Guyenne, which had been received Barbier in Montpellier, wanted to make of his son a doctor, but the François young person preferred to choose the Chirurgie.

February 17th 1695, at the 17 years age, François Gigot of Lapeyronie obtains his diploma for the occupation of maistre-surgeon and barber of Montpellier. Wishing to supplement its instruction, it goes to Paris, where it finds boarder of Georges Mareschal, army surgeon of the Charité before becoming, later, first surgeon of the king.

It returns to Montpellier where, of 1697 with 1715, it lives the Main street with the angle of the street In Gondeau, street which bears its name today. It is named army surgeon with the Hôtel-Dieu Saint-Éloi. Professor at the Medical school, it teaches and dissects in front of the students. Become associated anatomist with the royal Company of sciences of Montpelleir in 1706, it resigns in 1717 of it when it is fixed again at Paris.

With died of Mareschal in 1736, Lapeyronie becomes the first surgeon and confidant of the king Louis XV, and chief of the surgery of the Kingdom. The rank of doctor of medicine which it obtained with Rheims makes it possible him moreover to belong to the medical department of district. In 1738, an intervention on the jaw lower of the Dauphin gets a new pension to him.

It is named free associate of the royal Académie of sciences in 1731 and he is president of the royal Académie of surgery of 1736 with 1747.

He is undoubtedly at the origin of the royal decree of April 23rd 1743, which sealed definitively separation between Chirurgie NS and barbers. It is with the funds bequeathed by François de Lapeyronie, that the hotel Saint-Like with Montpellier was built, current seat of the Chamber of commerce and industry of Montpellier.

The disease of Lapeyronie

François Gigot of Lapeyronie described the Maladie of Peyronie, or plastic induration of the cavernous bodies, in 1743.
