François Ier of Saxony-Cobourg-Saalfeld

François Ier of Saxony-Cobourg-Saafeld is resulting from a German princely big family, it carries the titles of duke of Saxony-Cobourg and prince of Saxony-Cobourg and Saafeld. Born in 1750, he is the son of the duke Ernest-Frederic of Saxony-Cobourg and of the Sophie princess of Brunswick Wolfenbuttle, sister of the queen Ulrique of Denmark.

In 1776, François Ier marries Sophie of Saxony-Hildburgh (1760-1776), but the marriage is of short duration because she dies in the year. Then, in 1777, he marries Augusta de Reuss-Ebersdorf (1757-1831), which will give him a many descent. They had eight children, of which Ernest I {{er}}, duke heir and father to Albert of Saxony-Cobourg-Gotha (prince consore of England), Victoire, mother of future the Reine Victoria, and Léopold I {{er}}, king of the Belgians.

The descent of François Ier will reign on many thrones in Belgium, in the United Kingdom, in Bulgaria, in Portugual, in Mexico, in Germany, and will contract alliances with all great monarchies of Europe. And this thanks to the ingeniousness and the intelligence of his/her Léopold son of Saxony-Cobourg-Gotha.
